Authorized under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act 2001
Homeless students are those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, which includes the following:
- Living in multi-family situations because of economic hardship;
- Living in emergency or transitional shelters, cars, parks or similar settings;
- Living in Motels, hotels, trailer parks or campgrounds due to lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
- Awaiting foster care.
Student services include: Immediate enrollment in school, free school breakfast and lunch, backpacks with school supplies and toiletries, transportation to school of origin, emergency clothing, and assistance with cap and gowns and summer school tuition grants.
