School Name Committee
The purpose of this committee is to review naming nominations for unnamed Clark County School District facilities, including schools, central office locations and areas within schools (for example, libraries and sports facilities).
Two School Board trustees serve as members of the committee:
- Chairperson and Board of School Trustees representative, Tameka Henry
- Board of School Trustees representative, Linda Cavazos
- CCSD administrator representative, Abigail Johnson
- CCSD teacher representative, Michael Patterson
- Parent representative, Bradley Combs, Esq
- Community representative, Piper Overstreet-White
- Community representative, Leonardo Benavides, Esq
One of the highest honors bestowed upon an individual who has made an everlasting impact in the Clark County community is to become a school namesake. The motivation for this naming opportunity is to honor educators, students, and community leaders of the highest character, while providing Clark County school children with role models, and a sense of the rich history and diversity of the Southern Nevada community.
Clark County School District Policy 7223, Naming of Schools and Education-Related Facilities, outlines the criteria for naming District facilities and portions of facilities, the selection process, and the make-up of the School Name Committee.

Call for Nominations - New Schools
We are now accepting nominations from our community to name our newest elementary school, currently under construction at Skye Canyon Park Drive and Shaumber Road. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2027, the school will serve up to 850 students.
Nominations will remain open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 17.
Please note that a revised nomination application will be used for this naming cycle. While only minor changes have been made to the rated evaluation categories, all interested nominators must submit a new application for consideration. Before submitting a nomination, please review Policy 7223 for the committee's naming criteria and eligibility guidelines.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The three nominees with the highest combined average evaluation scores will be selected as finalists. From those finalists, the School Name Committee will recommend one name at its August meeting. The committee's recommendation will then be presented to the Board of School Trustees for consideration and approval at its regular public meeting on September 1, 2026.
In accordance with Policy 7223, the names of previously closed schools will also automatically be considered. For this new school, the committee will include the following former school namesakes as nominees:
- Dell H. Robison
- Ruth Fyfe
In the 2015 and 2021 legislative sessions, the Governor and the Nevada Legislature approved a change in the way school districts can access funds to construct new schools and renovate existing ones. As of December 2021, $3.7 billion of the $7.7 billion total has been allocated for 20 new schools, 18 replacement schools, five-phased replacement schools, 37 classroom additions, and 82 modernization projects.
Naming a Portion of a Facility
(Including libraries, gyms, stadiums, conference rooms, etc.)
If you are considering naming a portion of your school/nonschool facility in honor of an individual (or if you have informally named a portion of your facility without approval from the School Name Committee) please submit an application. Applications require administration approval from the facility.
