Superintendent Ebert Outlines Roadmap for the Destination District
Superintendent State of the Schools

LAS VEGAS – Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Jhone Ebert outlined the Road to the Destination District in her first State of the District event.

During the event held at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, Superintendent Ebert detailed leadership’s commitment to honor the past, invest in the present and build for the future.

“With a continued focus on the Core Four academic priorities and a commitment to community engagement, CCSD is Ready for the Destination,” Superintendent Ebert said. “It was a priority for our team to bring the community back into a school building for this event so they can see our accomplishments and understand that we can solve big problems when we work together.”

During the State of the District, Superintendent Ebert, along with other CCSD leaders, highlighted academic and operational achievements during the past year, including:

  • Academic
    • Improvement on the Nevada School Performance Framework
    • 4.4 percentage point reduction in chronic absenteeism
    • 5.1 percent increase in the 4-year graduation rate (86.6%)
  • Operations
    • 98 percent of classrooms are staffed with licensed teachers
      • Highest rate in a decade
    • Increased teacher retention rates (92.45%)
    • Improved performance in the Transportation and Facilities Departments, leading to better learning conditions for students.

Looking to the future, Superintendent Ebert outlined plans to build transparency and trust with the community, including through the development of the strategic plan. The District released the What We Heard Report, a summary of the top themes and direct quotes from the Destination District Survey. Those themes will inform the Community Dream sessions currently underway to gather feedback for the strategic plan, which will be shared with the Board of School Trustees and the community in May.

During the event sponsored by the Public Education Foundation (PEF), the superintendent highlighted several new programs aimed at increasing community engagement to support academic achievement.

  • CCSD Alumni Association - A collaboration with the PEF to unite CCSD graduates across generations to highlight student and school success.
  • The College Football Playoff Foundation is investing $750,000 to purchase an intensive reading program to support students with dyslexia and other difficulties reading.
  • Feedback loops that establish ongoing touchpoints for teachers, students and families, including the soon-to-be-established Special Education Parent Alliance.

Superintendent Ebert also encouraged the audience to take a look at the District’s new website. The updated site was designed with a cleaner, more user-friendly experience.
