MISSION STATEMENT:

Working together, the Jo Mackey community will create a powerful learning environment to promote the acquisition of knowledge and development of positive character traits to prepare students for success in a diverse global society, and encourage leadership and respect for cultural values.

THEME SUMMARY:

Our leadership program is built on the development of positive Character, strong Citizenship, and Communications through technology to ensure students succeed in a global society.

CHARACTER:

Students will develop the capacity for character-based leadership (personal and group) as they are exposed to lessons and experiences, which promote not only a clear understanding of desirable character traits, but habits of actions and reasoning which promote strong leadership principles. Studies will include examination of the lives and contributions of global role models who exemplify positive values and leadership traits. Through teaching, modeling, and practicing specific principles, traits, and habits, students will gain the competence and confidence necessary to become leaders in a global society.

CITIZENSHIP:

Students will develop an understanding of government structures, economics, and service projects in a global society.  Students will be able to explain and demonstrate ways in which they can be responsible citizens by engaging in age-appropriate citizenship within a diverse culture.  In addition, students will continue to expand their knowledge of the rights and privileges inherent to all individuals .  The citizenship component will offer a unique and engaging learning environment where students participate in rigorous academic pursuits, personal growth opportunities, and global experiences to prepare them for individual fulfillment and personal commitment to being a productive global citizen.

GLOBAL COMMUNICATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY:

Students will gain proficiency in communication through technology as they acquire knowledge of the English language and technology hardware/software.  Students will be introduced to intense foreign language acquisition in Spanish - Grades K-5 .  Students will develop cultural awareness and appreciation for our diverse society as they interact and communicate with our global community.  The awareness created by the study of communication will prosper into appreciation for the similarities and differences among cultures, economic systems, geography, and world history.
