Jo Mackey Student Council Officers initiated a school-wide Service Learning Project in February with our Leukemia & Lymphoma Society community partner.

One of the core components of our leadership program is for our students to be able to explain and demonstrate ways in which they can be responsible, by engaging in age-appropriate citizenship projects. Our young leaders learn a valuable lesson that by helping others we benefit those in need, while enhancing our community spirit and support.

Each classroom received a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Pennies for Patients” box for the collection of coins to help fund research to find a cure for blood related cancers.

Every classroom teacher posted their classroom's total coin collection in the Multipurpose Room and the results were broadcast weekly on the Mackey Morning News.
