Test Taking Tips
The following suggestions are offered in an effort to better prepare students for the upcoming Iowa Test of Educational Development and Proficiency Examinations:
- Get plenty of sleep and have a good, nourishing breakfast. Test taking is hard work and takes a lot of energy.
- Relax. It is normal to be somewhat nervous before a test.
- Be sure you can hear the directions. Raise your hand if you cannot hear or do not understand the directions.
- Listen to and read the directions for each test carefully. Mistakes are sometimes made because students fail to follow directions. Before responding to a question, be sure you know what is being asked.
- Trust your instincts. More often than not, if you know the content, the first answer you select is the best. If you are not sure of an answer, eliminate answer choices that you know are incorrect and choose from among the remaining options.
- Keep a positive attitude about your ability to do well. Concentrate on doing your best.
(All students must present photo identification to gain admission to the Nevada High School Proficiency Examination. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver’s license, a school student ID with picture, and picture ID with the student’s name and signature.)
