Discipline & Attendance
Attendance enforcement is a shared responsibility between the Clark County School District and the student’s parent or legal guardian. The parent, legal guardian or other person in the state of Nevada having control or charge of any student is required to send the student to school during all times that he public school is in session (NRS392.040). The Board of School Trustees requires that students enrolled for school in the Clark County School District attend school regularly in accordance with the Nevada Revised Statutes. Students are expected to attend all classes in which they are enrolled.
DAILY ATTENDANCE
A secondary student shall be marked absent for the entire day when that student has missed every class period.
A secondary student missing less than a full day shall be marked absent only in those classes that were missed.
A secondary student who is more than thirty minutes late to class shall be marked absent for that class period only.LIMITATION OF ABSENCES
The Nevada Revised Statutes provide that corrective steps and/or sanctions be taken or applied when a student does not attend school.EXCESSIVE ABSENTEEISM; ISSUANCE OF FAILING GRADES; RETENTION
Secondary students who attend block-schedule schools and exceed SIX (6) unapproved absences in any course during the semester will receive a failing semester grade for that course. All prearranged absences in excess of ten (10) during a school year shall be considered unapproved. The limitation of absences may be adjusted for schools using year round schedules or unique schedules with block periods.
Block Schedule
Durango High School will convert to a block schedule for the 2006-2007 school
year. The first attendance day of school will be Wednesday, August 30th. All
8 periods will be held so that students can be enrolled into all their classes.
On Thursday, August 31st, only periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 will meet (it will be
referred to as the odd day or the purple day). On Friday, September 1st, periods
2, 4, 6, and 8 will meet (it will be referred to as the even day or the gold
day). The days will alternate purple, gold, purple, gold, etc. Classes are 85
minutes each. First lunch will take place at 9:55am to 10:25am and second lunch
will take place at 11:25am to 11:55am.
