Advancement Via Individual Determination
What is AVID?
AVID is a program for students with mid-range GPA’s who have potential to achieve more, motivation to be in honors courses, and a desire to be the first in their family to attend college. Through a daily elective class, AVID students learn study skills and are given the information they need to choose the best college for them. AVID students are bright students whose skill level is not at the maximum; therefore, the AVID class provides support,, academic monitoring, and tutoring. The writing process, collaborative learning, Socratic questioning, and reading are the core strategies of the program.
AVID’s systemic approach is designed to support students and educators as they increase school-wide and district-wide learning and performance.
