Cheyenne High School Receives EMPOWERMENT STATUS!

On May 7, 2008 Dr. Walt Rulffes, Superintendent of the Clark County School District (CCSD), announced that Cheyenne High School would receive Empowerment School status. The Cheyenne community commends Dr. Rulffes for his commitment to the concept of Empowerment since it is our belief that this structure is the wave of the future in education. Dr. Rulffes’ commitment to Empowerment is strong evidence of visionary leadership that will fair well for the students, at Cheyenne High School and within CCSD.

Cheyenne High School was one of six new Empowerment Schools selected in CCSD for the 2008-09 school year; however, Cheyenne is the first large comprehensive high school in the Las Vegas Valley to receive this status. In an Empowerment School, the goal is to create the most effective school for the students being served through a business oriented approach that is collaborative and results driven. Student achievement translates into our profit margins; therefore, the school stakeholders become stockholders. The collaborative governance structure is a business model. Funding sources are removed from central office administration and given back to individual Empowerment Schools. The principal then acts as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is ultimately accountable for all aspects of student achievement and the operation of the school.

We will continue to inform you about items of interest and events related to our transition to an Empowerment School. If you have any questions, please call the office at 799-4830 anytime.
