OVERVIEW The Career Center at Cheyenne High School offers students and staff a variety of materials and resources pertaining to careers and education. Students and staff can seek information about specific careers, colleges, scholarships, technical schools, military jobs, career assessments and planning, school related work experience, school job bank and other related topics. PROCEDURES Students and staff have access to the Career Center during the school day. Students should plan to visit before or after school, or during their assigned lunch period. Specific materials such as college pamphlets are available for distribution, but other resources such as college catalogs must stay in the Career Center. Videos can be signed out for a two week period. JOB BANK The Job Bank service is available for students to locate jobs of interest. Students can view the job bank listings in the Career Center and job details can be printed. A job referral is written for students who apply for specific jobs. The Career Center Coordinator must receive notification from students who receive employment.
WORK EXPERIENCE This program is designed to give students experience in the world of work while earning high school credit. Students can sign up for Exploratory Work Experience, which prepares students for entry-level positions in their field of interest or Cooperative Work Experience, which involves employment within an occupational area related to a current course on the student’s school schedule. These opportunities help students bridge the gap from school to work. Details about course requirements, goals, objectives and grading procedures are provided by the Career Center Coordinator.
