Our Athletic Director - Coach Fernando Carmona

Coach Fernando Carmona is no stranger to Chaparral. He graduated from Chaparral in 1981 after a stellar sports career. He earned seven varsity letters in three different sports: baseball, football, and wrestling. He lettered his freshman year in wrestling and was part of three State Championship teams in wrestling and baseball. After graduation, he attended Dixie College on a baseball and football scholarship. He then transferred to the University Of Utah on a full baseball scholarship, where he was a unanimous All-Conference player two years in the Western Athletic Conference.

Coach Carmona started his coaching career as the American Legion Baseball Head Coach at Chaparral in 1987.  He subsequently joined CCSD and began coaching at Rancho with hopes of returning to Chaparral. He joined Chaparral in 1999 as the freshman football coach and worked his way up the ranks. He was named Varsity Head Football Coach at the end of the 2003 season. Last year he was named Athletic Director; his goal is to lead the Cowboys back to their glory years. Coach Carmona met his wife Gail at Chaparral in 1981, and they have been married for twenty-six years. They have two boys, George and Fernando Junior.
