School Rules
Habitual Truancy
A student who is determined to be habitually truant will be referred to the appropriate law enforcement officials and truancy court.
Tardy Policy and Procedure
Students are tardy if they are not in their classrooms by the time the tardy bell rings for each period. Tardies may negatively affect student grades; teachers may deduct points for tardiness. Tardy sweeps will be conducted every period during the school day. Centennial High School administration and staff understand the importance of students learning to be on time for classes. The purpose of the Tardy Sweep is to encourage students to report to class on time.
Progressive Tardy Violation Consequences:
1st Tardy Student will be warned, and the tardy will be recorded in the Dean's office database.
2nd Tardy Student will be issued a warning letter to take home to his/her parent/guardian. Tardy will be recorded in the Dean's office.
3rd Tardy Student will be issued a Tardy Policy Violation Notice. Parent/guardian must accompany the student for reinstatement the next school day. Students can be reinstated in the assistant principal's office, upstairs from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Students that are not reinstated will be placed in in-house suspension for the day. All teachers will enforce the Tardy Policy when students arrive late to class. Tardy lockouts begin at 7 a.m. and are conducted throughout the school day.
As always, Centennial High School appreciates your continued parental support. Our efforts are designed to raise our students' level of awareness concerning the importance of attendance, arriving to class on time, and having every opportunity to experience academic success. For more detailed information on Centennial High School's attendance enforcement, please refer to the 2007-08 student planner. This information can be found on pages six and seven. Also, visit the Clark County School District website.
Attendance Appeal
If the parent or legal guardian or student has reason to believe that there is an error in the attendance record, or if extenuating circumstances exist, an appeal hearing may be requested with Ms. Shipp, assistant principal.
Cell Phone Policy
We want to remind you that cell phones are only to be used before school, after school, and during lunch. They are to be off the rest of the day. If a teacher sees or hears a cell phone in class he/she will confiscate it and turn it into the Dean's office. The first time a student's phone is turned in it will be returned to the student at the end of the day. Subsequent problems will require the parent to come in and pick up the student's cell phone.
