Highlights
Law Library
Another feature of our campus is a room within the campus library
we have dubbed the “Law Library” which contains an
extensive collection of legal reporters and professional journals
that have been generously donated to the school by UNLV Boyd School
of Law and various private anonymous practitioners. The books are
available for student review and research and the room is also
home to several laptops dedicated to the Internet legal research
provider of LexisNexis. LexisNexis is an excellent resource for
students to learn and understand as an established system used
in the legal profession.
Mock Courtroom
The unique feature of Canyon Springs High School and the Leadership
and Law Preparatory Academy is the state of the art Mock Court
room located in the 500 wing of the building adjacent to the Broadcast
studio. The Courtroom is modeled after similar chambers in the
federal courthouse and has wireless Internet abilities. In addition,
the room is wired with “virtual interactive” technology
which allows participants to interact with students in various
locations across the globe or to go on “virtual tours’ with
sites that have compatible technology.
Students in the law and debate classes are required to do numerous
projects in the courtroom in order to understand the nature of judicial
practice and the roles played by the various participants such as
the advocates, judges and the jury. The Courtroom is also the home
of the “Lloyd D. George Lecture Series” where an invited
guest of the community is invited to speak to select students each
quarter. The Speaker series is a proud tradition that has been established
here at Canyon Springs in honor of one of the most dedicated community
supporters of the Honorable Federal Judge Lloyd D. George. Many thanks
to Judge George for his support since the school was under construction.
We hope the speaker series continues to grow as an honored tradition
in the community. |
