**HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT CLASSES - Algebra I Honors and Spanish I are offered in the middle school for high school credit. The grades earned in these courses are recorded on the student's permanent high school transcript and they are calculated into the student's cumulative high school grade point average. Transcripts of all high school level work may be viewed by potential colleges and employers when making decisions regarding the student.

PROMOTION AND RETENTION POLICY

Clark County School District PROMOTION AND RETENTION POLICY Regulation 5123

The school board has adopted a regulation that will affect students who fail specific classes in the middle school. Below you will find a brief description of the policy as it affects your child.

Sixth Grade - Sixth graders for the 2008-2009 school year are required to pass a half year (one semester, 18 weeks) of mathematics AND a half year (one semester, 18 weeks) of reading or English to be advanced to seventh grade next year. Students will automatically be held back in the sixth grade if they do not meet these requirements.

Seventh Grade - Seventh graders for the 2008-2009 school year are required to pass a half year (one semester, 18 weeks) of mathematics AND a half year (one semester, 18 weeks) of reading or English to be advanced to eighth grade next year. Students will automatically be held back in the seventh grade if they do not meet these requirements.

Eighth Grade - Eighth graders for the 2008-2009 school year are required to pass 3 semesters of reading or English AND 3 semesters of mathematics during seventh and eighth grade to be advanced to high school the following year. Students will automatically be held back in eighth grade until they meet the requirements.

Please realize that holding your child back is automatic. State law and District policy require Jim Bridger Middle School to retain your child if the requirements are not met. The policy is intended to ensure that the students entering a new grade know the information they need to be successful in the next grade level classes. Please discuss the information with your child and make sure they understand how important it is to pass these specific core classes. We encourage students to excel in all of their classes specifically because it will increase their chances of success in the next grade.
