PSAT

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a test that is given once a year to tenth and eleventh graders. The PSAT is used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a preliminary qualifier for its annual academic competitions for recognition and college scholarships.  The PSAT assesses verbal, math, and writing skills.  On average, students who take the PSAT earn higher scores on the SAT than those who do not.  The reasoning behind this, is that the test format is similar in content and directions to the SAT.  Also, by taking the PSAT, students are given an indication of their areas of strengths and weaknesses in time to remediate problem areas.
