Starting in September, students at Cheyenne High School will be the first in Nevada to take the newly approved Academic Decathlon course.

Fifth grade students at Eisenberg Elementary School are trying to count one million beans to show that there have been more than one million casualties in wars involving the United States. After the beans have been counted they will be donated to the Salvation Army. The most recent count was 646,612. For details, call teacher Arlene Donnelly at 799-4680.

The Clark High School chamber choir scored a superior rating at the recent Heritage festival in San Diego, California. With 15 students, Clark HS was the smallest ensemble in attendance, yet they also received the Spirit of San Diego Award, given to the group that best represents their school and community. Their performance also earned Clark’s chamber choir an invitation to the Festivals of Gold competition, reserved exclusively for superior choirs. Artwork from CCSD students will be highlighted in the Congressional Art Competition reception to be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Embarq, 330 S. Valley View Blvd. The competition is open to high school students in much of southern Nevada.
