Human Resources Division - Teacher Induction & Mentoring

Teacher Induction & Mentoring

The goal of the Teacher Induction and Mentoring Department is to increase student achievement by supporting teachers in their development as professional educators, directly related to District goals and the No Child Left Behind Act.

The Teacher Induction and Mentoring Department believes that supporting successful teachers’ practices involves:

  • induction
  • mentoring
  • teacher collaboration
  • participation in professional development
  • guided reflection
  • administrative support

“Nothing within a school has more impact upon students in terms of skills development, self-confidence, or classroom behavior than the personal and professional growth of their teachers.  When teachers examine, question, reflect on their ideas, and develop new practices that lead towards their ideas, students are alive.  When teachers stop growing, so do their students.”  (Barth, 1981, p. 145)
