Getting a CCSD Identification Card

Teachers new to the Clark County School District (CCSD) are required to obtain a free CCSD photo identification card. In addition, the cards may be used for free admission to some CCSD athletic events and student activities, to waive security deposits when applying for services with the Las Vegas Valley Water District and Nevada Power Company (the
district’s official offer of employment may also be used to obtain many of these waivers) and to provide proof of employment for such purposes as joining wholesale shopping clubs.

CCSD identification cards are issued every Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Edward A. Greer Education Center, 2832 E. Flamingo Road. Enter through the main lobby and ask for directions to the Photo I.D. Lab.

It is important that you have the necessary paperwork completed before your photo is taken. Contact your school site administrator to obtain a blue data card filled out with the appropriate information. Make sure that the blue card is typed and completed correctly as it becomes part of the identification card. ID cards are valid for four years.

"We Care" Program (Please click the We Care link for more information)

The 'We Care' Program was founded several years ago by the Clark County School District and the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. 'We Care' has been designed to reaffirm a teacher applicant's decision to accept employment with the district in addition to supplying information about our community. The program runs annually from March to August.

Each applicant who lives outside the Clark County area, and who has been offered a teaching contract with the district, is assigned a Community Ambassador and a teacher who is presently employed with the district. Contact will be made to prospective teachers by telephone, letter and/or email.

If you have not been contacted by a mentor, please contact (702) 799-1019 for further information.

"WE CARE" JOB FAIR

Once new teachers have accepted their offers, their work-age family members immediately qualify to participate in our new "We Care" Job Fair program. This is our way of helping family members of new teachers find jobs in the Las Vegas area, making their move easier. Upon accepting an offer with Clark County School District, new teachers will receive additional detailed information regarding the "We Care" Job Fair.

Health Insurance - www.teachershealthtrust.org

The health and term life insurance program for Clark County School District (CCSD) employees on the teachers' salary schedule is provided through the Teachers Health Trust. In accordance with the negotiated agreement, the school district makes the contracted monthly contribution directly to the trust fund toward the coverage of every licensed employee. Medical coverage is NOT automatic. There are four (4) health coverage options offered by the Trust, and you MUST attend a briefing during new teacher orientation, or at another designated date for late hires, where you will sign the appropriate enrollment form to select your option. FAILURE TO ENROLL IN A MEDICAL PLAN WITHIN 31 DAYS OF YOUR HIRE DATE WILL RESULT IN NO MEDICAL COVERAGE.

As an eligible licensed employee, your coverage will become effective the first day of the calendar month following your first day of the calendar month. For example, if your first day of contracted employment is August 18, 2004, your coverage will become effective on September 1, 2004.

You do not have to be a member of the Clark County Education Association in order to be eligible for the health and term life insurance.

If you have additional questions concerning health coverage, please visit the Health Trust website, or e-mail your questions to the service team@teachershealthtrust.org. You may also call the Teachers Health Trust at (702) 794-0272 or outside the Las Vegas area at 1-800-432-5859.

The Clark County School District and the Teachers Health Trust (www.teachershealthtrust.org) have been in compliance with COBRA since July 1, 1987.

Car Insurance

Financial Responsibility:

In Nevada, legal and financial responsibility is based upon the law of negligence. If an accident is your fault, that is, you are negligent, you are responsible for bodily injury and property damages suffered by the innocent party.

To assure that innocent parties are adequately compensated for their injuries, Nevada law requires that all registered owners of motor vehicles have security for tort liability arising from the use of their motor vehicles. Please contact your local insurance agent or the Department of Motor Vehicles.

After establishing residency in the state of Nevada, you have 30 days in which to register your vehicle and obtain your Nevada driver's license. You may do this at any of the full-service motor vehicle branch offices in Clark County.

New Nevada Vehicle Registration Information:

If you are coming from another state, please register your vehicles within 30 days after you establish residency in this state or before the out-of-state registration expires, whichever comes first. Documents needed in order to register vehicles are the originals or your:

1. Most recent registration,

2. Your out-of-state license plates,

3. Nevada emission control certificate (smog check) - in Clark and Washoe counties only,

4. Nevada proof of insurance card in the exact name(s) which will be on the registration,

5. A Vehicle Inspection Certificate (VIN check),

6. Certificate of Title if ownership is changing. (If not changing ownership, the owner has the option of retaining the out-of-state title).

There are exceptions, of course. For example, motorcycles do not require an emission control certificate, trailers need no insurance card, and diesel vehicles over 8500 gvw have exceptions, also. Vehicles with a registration address that lie in a smog check county but with a zip code listed as smog exempt, need not have a smog check performed.

Names of the title, registration, and insurance will all need to agree, as will the vehicle identification numbers. Contact a DMV office with your concerns.

More about registering your vehicle

Liability insurance information

Nevada law requires you to have at least $15,000, $30,000 and $10,000 in liability insurance. Every policy must be subject to a limit of not less than $15,000 because of bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident to a limit of not less than $30,000 because of bodily injury to or destruction of property, and to a limit of not less than $10,000 because of injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident.

We recommend that you do not keep your insurance policy or papers in your vehicle which show liability limits. Only the Nevada approved insurance card validating your coverage is necessary, but it must be issued by a Nevada - licensed agent.

Emission control certificate (smog check) - in Clark and Washoe counties only.

Emissions inspections are required annually in Nevada. Smog check stations are commercially owned and operated sites throughout Nevada cities. Vehicles which do not require emissions tests include model years 1967 or older, alternatively fueled (not gasoline or diesel powered) vehicles, motorcycles, diesel vehicles over the 8,500 GVW, and new vehicles that have been registered less than two years.

Emissions testing on vehicles purchased from a private party is the buyer's responsibility. Nevada dealers are required to perform the test, when required, on every vehicle they sell.

General Information

New residents may use a valid driver's license and vehicle registration from their former state for up to 30 days. At any time during the 30 days, they may turn them in for nevada items. but they must do so within 30 days or before the out-of-state items expire, whichever comes first.

Students, active duty military personnel, (including their accompanying family members), and other living temporarily in Nevada are not required to register their vehicles to obtain a driver's license as long as they are not employed in Nevada. However, they must have a valid vehicle registration, driver's license, and insurance from their home state in order to operate vehicles in Nevada. Should someone such as a military dependent or non-resident student obtain employment in Nevada, they will be subject to DMV rules as a Nevada resident.

Address changes are to be reported within ten days of relocation. Both driver's license and vehicle registration address changes are submitted to a local DMV office. Informing your insurer of your relocation is done directly with your agent.

If you are stopped for any reason while driving and do not have valid registration, license, and insurance evidence, you are subject to fines and vehicle impound.

Insurance Verification Program

We have a mandatory liability responsibility regulation that is met through Nevada licensed insurance agents. All registered vehicles are required to have the minimum liability coverage. Should the coverage lapse while registration is still current, significant fees will be charged before the registration will be reinstated. Roadside spot-checks, direct mail verification, and insurance company data comparisons provide verification methods to ensure compliance. Call 1-800-344-0483 for more information.

New Driver License Information:

New Residents

Welcome to Nevada! New residents must obtain their Nevada driver license and vehicle registration within 30 days. See the DMV New Resident Guide for tips and a checklist of items you will need.

You must surrender your out-of-state license. All applicants take a vision test. Other tests will be waived if:

• you are age 25 or older and have no special restrictions.

• your U.S. state-issued license is valid and you are applying for the same class of license

• you have no more than two (2) moving violations and no suspensions, revocations, cancellations or license denials in the past four (4) years.

If your social security number is not printed on your driver license, you will need to bring your social security card. If you do not have a card, call for an explanation of alternative documents.

If your license is expired, and you are under 25 or otherwise do not meet these requirements, you will have to take a written test and possibly a skills test. Please call your local DMV office for details.

Items to Have Before You Come to the Office

• Your Valid, State-issued Driver License - This must contain your name and date of birth. You must complete an application and surrender your out-of-state license. If your license is expired, suspended or revoked, call to determine what you need to do. All licenses are checked through the national Problem Driver Pointer System.

• Vehicle Identification Number Inspections - any vehicle or trailer which has never been registered or titled in Nevada MUST be inspected.

• Proof of Your Social Security Number - if your social security number is not printed on your driver's license, you will need to bring your social security card. If you do not have a card, call for an explanation of alternative documents.

• Nevada Proof of Insurance - Minimum liability insurance requirement is $15,000/$30,000/$10,000. Out-of-state insurance cards are not acceptable. Be sure the name(s) on your insurance card match the name(s) on your registration exactly.

• Smog Check Certificate in Clark and Washoe Counties - Emissions control inspections may not be necessary in rural areas. Other exemptions include vehicles older than 1967 or older, motorcycles, alternative fuel vehicles and new vehicles that have been registered less than two years.

• Your Current Registration(s) - If you do not have the slip, the DMV will have to teletype your home state for verification. Expired registrations are subject to late fees. Most trailers must be registered and titled if used on any highway. If your home state does not register and/or title trailers, call for an explanation of requirements.

• Title(s), Unless Held By Lien holder - You have the option of retaining your out-of-state title. However, we strongly suggest getting a Nevada title if your vehicle is paid for. this will minimize problems when you sell your vehicle.

• Fees - Cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard - driver licenses cost $21.75 and $16.75 for those 65 and older. Call the DMV for a telephone estimate of registration fees. Nevada charges basic registration fees and taxes based on the value of your vehicle. Out-of-state checks are accepted with the approval of a DMV & PS supervisor. Money orders must be for the exact amount.
