Special Education Cohort Program - Program Overview

The Special Education Cohort Program is a unique opportunity for selected Clark County School District employees and substitute teachers to complete their Bachelor’s degree and become certified to teach special education in just one year.

If you are selected, you will participate in a rigorous academic schedule provided by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Instruction is focused on special needs students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Cohort members attend university classes Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. This schedule is followed for an entire academic year, during which, Cohort members continue to receive their salary from their last assigned position. Upon completing the Special Education Cohort Program, members will be eligible to apply for contracted teaching positions in the Clark County School District. As a new teacher to the Clark County School District, you will continue to participate in a wide variety of staff development training.
