Planning & Design

The Planning and Design department plans new schools, additions, and major renovation projects with input from architects, the Instructional Unit, regions, and committees of teachers, principals, community representatives, and specialists.

The department develops programs, projects, and schedules for building new schools, additions, and major renovation of existing schools. They review plans and specifications of school designs for compliance with budgets, guidelines, and educational specifications and well as approves site development and master plans.

Planning and Design facilitates the development of educational specifications (size, standards, instructional support, technology, safety and security requirements, functional relationship and sustainability goals) for elementary, middle, high, and special and alternative schools.

Programming: Actively maintains, supplements, and implements the Master Plan by integrating information, policies, and statistical data to facilitate an organized approach in planning educational facilities to meet the changing needs of the community and seek equitable alternatives in allocating resources to achieve Clark County School District goals and objectives.

Engineering: Provides planning, design, and coordination services for the installation of portable classrooms as required to house students during construction projects. They also coordinate any work by Special Projects that is scheduled to be done and which can be done in conjunction with the mechanical renovations, such as installation of replacement carpeting or other flooring and painting of interior spaces.
