The Clark County School District (CCSD) is the fifth largest in the United States, providing educational programs and services for more than 311,000 students. Of the nation's largest districts, CCSD features the unique combination of urban and rural schools in a county that covers nearly 8,000 square miles. CCSD is also a diverse district as Las Vegas is one of the crossroads of the world where people from all over visit and relocate to this southwestern oasis. With 357 schools, there are opportunities for teachers here in Las Vegas, especially for those in the high need areas of Math, Science and Special Education. CCSD is a minority-majority district and teachers who are bilingual are also in demand as CCSD students also represent 154 different languages. We are seeking exceptional teachers who thrive in an urban environment. Due to rapid growth during the past two decades CCSD built more than 110 schools since 2000, which means nearly one third of the district's schools are less than 20 years old, including six new Career & Technical Academies. CCSD schools and teachers have also received national recognition. Several CCSD schools have been honored as some of the top Magnet schools in the nation and CCSD has had at least one school receive the Department Of Education's prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation every year for the past four years. CCSD has also had three Milken Award winners in the past five years.
In addition to the opportunities in the classroom, Clark County offers teachers a variety of other attractive options. Tired of shoveling snow and scraping ice off windshields? Las Vegas has the third highest number of sunny days in the nation. The abundance of sunshine means opportunities to enjoy Lake Mead, the Colorado River, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, or the mountains and pine trees of nearby Mt. Charleston. Las Vegas is also the Entertainment Capital of the World with top name shows, concerts and world class dining experiences. Las Vegas features five of the 10 largest hotels in the world and Clark County is also centrally located in the southwestern United States, only four hours away from the beaches in southern California, five hours away from Phoenix and six hours from Salt Lake City. McCarran International Airport averages about 980 daily flights to connect with the rest of the nation and the world.
A career in education can be a rewarding path for teachers who have an opportunity with CCSD to make a difference in helping students to grow and learn. As a CCSD employee, teachers have access to professional development opportunities to help them reach their potential. While the classroom experience can provide a rewarding career path, there are other benefits as well. Nevada is the seventh largest state in the nation and one of seven states with no income tax. This means the cost of living is more affordable than most other parts of the nation, especially among large school districts. CCSD employees also pay into the Nevada PERS system rather than the federal social security program.
