Lummis ES wins Battle of the Books competition
For the third straight year, the William R. Lummis Elementary School “Bookworm Buddies” team won the Battle of the Books competition, which featured teams of students from 14 CCSD elementary schools reading a selection of eight books throughout the school year. The challenge culminated on June 1, 2012 when all the teams came together with their teachers, parents and administrators at Garside Junior High School to test their knowledge of the books in a “Jeopardy” style competition. In addition to winning the coveted championship cup, members of the winning team, fourth grade students Carly Feuquay, Amanda Chambers, Katherine Vernon and Bella Titus also received a Nook and gift card courtesy of Scholastic Books, which donated more than $6,000 worth of titles to CCSD schools as part of the competition.
