The Clark County School District's (CCSD) fleet of nearly 1,500 buses travels 21 million miles in a school year. The ways in which those miles are traveled safely and efficiently were showcased during the latest "Inside CCSD" tour. Media representatives and guests visited the Wallace Bus Yard and had the opportunity to go on a school bus ride-a-long, during which a trainer provided the driver a refresher course on motoring safety. The event also included a tour of the department's call center, which operates year-round but peaks at the start of the school year, handling up to 7,000 calls per day. Additionally, visitors saw mechanics at work in the Wallace Bus Yard's garage, changing tires and doing engine maintenance. The Transportation Department's nearly 2,000 employees help ensure that tens of thousands of students are transported safely to and from school each day.
