Substance Abuse Awareness Program (SAAP)

  • Assists schools as they address drug and alcohol use among students.
  • Parents are required to participate so that a collaborative approach may be implemented when combating the causes of substance abuse.
  • Drug and alcohol use and abuse are recognized as complex human behaviors with patterns that vary and are influenced by many forces (i.e., individual, family, school, peer groups, media).
  • The program for students and parents is designed to provide educational awareness regarding substance abuse prevention and available community services.
  • School district personnel and licensed therapists with a background in drug and alcohol education, conduct the 6-hour educational sessions.
  • Evaluations by students and parents who have completed the program indicate a very positive reaction as to the value of the program in improving parent/child relationships, understanding alcohol and other drugs, and in reducing further drug/alcohol use.
