Foreign Exchange Program

Inbound Foreign Exchange Students:

All inbound foreign exchange students are approved by the Instructional Design and Professional Learning Division. The District accepts foreign exchange students under two different student visa programs administered by the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

J-1 Visa Program

A foreign student who contracts with a foreign exchange organization, authorized by the State Department, who places the student in the custody of a host family in the United States for one year. The student attends the local high school and then returns home at the end of the year. The J-1 Visa is not renewable. The student's entry into the United States is sponsored by an authorized foreign exchange organization. Students who enroll as a part of the J-1 Visa Program do not pay tuition to the school district.

F-1 Visa Program

A foreign student who comes to the United States to live with relatives (other than the student's parents), a family friend, or a temporary guardian for one year. The student attends the local high school and then must return home at the end of the year. The F-1 Visa is not renewable. The student's entry to the United States is sponsored by the District. Students who enroll as a part of the F-1 Visa Program are required by federal law, to pay the full, unsubsidized cost of tuition to the District before the visa is issued.

Outbound Foreign Exchange Students

The Clark County School District is unable to assist with the organization, promotion, or sponsorship of students interested in studying abroad as outbound foreign exchange students. These duties are the sole responsibility of the students, their parents, and their selected foreign exchange organization.

The Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) maintains a list of approved foreign exchange organizations that parents and students may want to consult before selecting an exchange organization. The listing may be found at Study Abroad.
