All preservice field placements are facilitated by the New Teacher Development Department.  Building principals identify and select appropriate, qualified Cooperating Teachers for each placement.  Cooperating Teachers who are selected to work with student teachers attend a series of Cooperating Teacher Workshops.  These workshops are designed to provide Cooperating Teachers with the information necessary to produce competent future teachers.
The content of the workshop series includes:  

• preparing for the arrival of the student teacher
• developing trust
• effective mentoring
• university expectations
• communication skills
• stages of student teacher development
• providing constructive feedback
• assessment and evaluation of progress
