Bullying: The Beginning of the Violence Continuum

  • This presentation offers educators an overview of the issues surrounding bullying.  Participants will gain a clear definition of bullying, learn the difference between bullying and normal peer conflict, and identify traits of both a bully and a victim.  Specific prevention and intervention strategies to use with victims, bullies, and bystanders will be explained.


  • Cyberbullying and Internet Safety

  • Participants will learn how sites such as MySpace.com lend themselves to bullying, bias-motivated acts of violence, and crimes against youth.  The principles of internet safety will be shared. 


  • Helping Parents Use the Developmental Asset Model with Youth

  • Assets are building blocks that all children need to become healthy, competent, and contributing citizens. The model of 40 Developmental Assets, developed by the Search Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will be explained. Parents will receive ideas on how to build assets in children so that they are successful. (Co-presented by Raising Nevada)
