8th Annual Elementary Physical Education Dance Festival

The festival was held at Gilbert Magnet Elementary School on February 15th with a morning and afternoon session. Seventeen Elementary Schools from around the District were represented at this year’s Dance Festival and it was fantastic. The only way to really describe the performances this year is “WOW”. The students and Physical Educators demonstrated all their hard work and dedication to work on life-long fitness in a practical and fun way. The Dance Festival was also featured on Channel 8’s “Cool at School”, February 22nd including the interview of one of our dynamic physical educators, Alyson Mitchell at Iverson ES.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART EVENT AT C.P. SQUIRES A SUCCESS!

On March 14th students at C.P.Squires Elementary School, a Title I (low socio-economic status) school in North Las Vegas jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope For Heart. The all day event was a great success. 100% of the school participated, rotating through various jump rope activities---set to upbeat music---during their “special” class times. Prior to the event, students raised money for the American Heart Association. Through their wonderful efforts, the children of C.P. Squires raised over $6,050!

Donations raised during Jump Rope For Heart help fund research to fight heart disease and stroke and also support the American Heart Association’s public and professional education programs. Heart disease is the number 1 killer in America and stroke is number 3.

This is a fantastic example of our students setting and achieving a goal as well as giving back to their community. We are very proud of them!
