Writing Tips for Parents

  • Let your child see you write often and encourage him or her to write often.
  • Encourage your child to expand his or her range and abilities by writing for a variety of audiences.
  • Praise your child’s efforts at writing.
  • Offer your child a wide variety of opportunities to read and to talk about those things you have both read.
  • Encourage your child to find ways to make an assigned topic his or her own.
  • Help your child see the value of clarifying ideas, drafting, and revising.
