Beyond the Classroom
Visit art museums and public library art exhibits. There are many free events to attend. For a listing, visit the Las Vegas Cultural Arts Center.
Purchase art supplies and encourage your child to experiment with paint, scissors, crayon and pencil drawings.
Attend art and community festivals where participation projects for children are offered.
- Visit the zoo with an inexpensive camera, or paper and colored pencils
- Decorate the sidewalk with big sticks of chalk and make an imaginary life-sized board game, then make the monster-sized dice to roll from cardboard.
- Play the child's favorite music and ask them to draw what it means.
- On a wet day outside, give water-based markers to children and have them decorate the inside of the windows. It all comes off with a little window cleaner later, but it is fun to do when the view is gray. The inspiration could be magazine pictures of jungles..or beach scenes..or someplace the kids would rather be.
