Music Orff Festival

The Elementary Music Orff Festival is a culminating performance event that has been held annually since 1993. Elementary schools voluntarily join the event at the beginning of each school year; 8-10 students are selected by the music specialist at each school. The number of schools varies from year to year; however, approximately 250 students from 25-32 schools participate.

The event offers a performance that includes musical selections, instrumental accompaniments, dances, and drama that feature the best of the elementary music curriculum. Students demonstrate activities that are taught in every music classroom: moving/dancing, speaking/singing, listening, playing, and improvising/creating.

The music for each festival is specifically selected, written, and arranged by the Orchestration Committee during the previous summer. For example, the 2006 Orff Festival will feature pieces that illustrate American Music history.

Students rehearse with their individual teacher at their own school before joining other students for two major rehearsals with the entire group.

Tickets to the event are available at the Ham Hall Box Office for a $1.00 fee or by calling the Elementary Fine Arts Office, 799-8467. Tickets should be available by the last week of January.
