  • Is your major field available at the school?
  • Is it an accredited program?
  • Is the education specialized?
Location
  • Is the school in a rural or urban area?
  • Do you plan to live at home or on a college campus?
  • Do you like the climate?
Size of enrollment
  • Is there a large or small student body?
  • Do you prefer a school where all of the students know each other or one where there is anonymity?
  • What is the cost per year?
  • Is there out-of-state tuition?
Financial aid programs
  • Don't eliminate the cost of a school until you have examined available financial aid programs such as grants, loans, scholarships, or work study.
Student population
  • Is the student body co-ed, predominantly women or predominantly men?
Affiliation
  • Is the school a state or private school?
  • If a private school, it is affiliated with a particular religion?
Admissions selectivity
  • Are admission standards competitive or liberal?
  • Have you taken the necessary courses and tests needed to qualify for admissions?
Campus environment
  • Is the college a commuter campus or residential campus?
  • Are there fraternities and sororities?
  • Are students allowed cars on campus?
