Required Information

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE A SUBSTITUTE
APPLICANT CAN ATTEND ORIENTATION AND BE HIRED

  1. A SIGNED, PRINTED COPY OF YOUR SUBMITTED APPLICATION
  2. INTERVIEW
    • Interviews are conducted in the office of Substitute Services. Interviews will not be scheduled until an application has been submitted.
  3. ORIGINAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS (Substitute Teacher Applicants) OR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA/TRANSCRIPTS (Support Staff Substitutes)
    • Copies will be accepted if an official transcript is available for verification.
    • Original college/university transcripts will be required when applying for a Substitute Teaching license.
    • Foreign transcripts must be officially evaluated by an approved agency and show the minimum equivalency required for the position.
  4. THREE CONFIDENTIAL REFERENCE FORMS RECEIVED FROM WORK and/or VOLUNTEER SUPERVISORS
    • Confidential reference forms are sent to the names you provide as soon as your application is submitted. These individuals must have supervised you in a work or volunteer setting.
    • Professional references such as a teacher, professor, counselor, or clergy can also be used if you are either new to the work force or have not been in the work force for an extended period of time.
    • All information must be current and complete (zip code, telephone, fax numbers and email addresses, etc.)
  5. COPY OF CURRENT SUBSTITUTE TEACHING LICENSE (Substitute Teacher Applicants)
    • A receipt from the Nevada Department of Education will be accepted and will serve as a valid license for 90 days. The cost of an initial substitute teaching license is $161.00.
  6. TUBERCULOSIS TEST
    • The Clark County School District requires submission of evidence of freedom from TB (chest X-ray or TB skin test) before an individual can be officially hired as a substitute.
    • ONLY results of a mantoux skin test (intra-dermal PPD) or chest X-ray taken within 12 months of the date of hire will be accepted.
  7. FINGERPRINTING
    • In accordance with Nevada law and Clark County School District regulations, all potential employees must be fingerprinted. A fee of $60 must be submitted to Substitute Services in the form of a money order. This fee covers the cost of fingerprinting and obtaining clearance of both your local and national fingerprint records.
    • If you are attempting to license in Nevada for the first time, the Nevada Department of Education will also require you to be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards will be provided for you to take to fingerprinting and to the Nevada Department of Education.
    • All documentation (letter of explanation, arresting officer’s reports, court documentation, and disposition of charges) must be submitted if you have marked yes to any of the questions contained in the application.
    • Please be aware that failure to disclose any information pertaining to your background is grounds for being denied employment.
  8. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF ON-LINE TRAINING
    • Pre-approved substitute teacher applicants must successfully pass a five (5) course program and submit certificates verifying completion.
    • Pre-approved support staff substitute applicants must successfully pass a three (3) course program and submit certificates verifying completion.
