Mentoring
The Clark County School District’s New Teacher Development Department has established a site-based mentoring program called T.E.A.M. (Teachers Encouraging and Mentoring). We believe that creating a mentoring environment promotes the development and professional growth of new teachers.
- This model encourages school administrators to designate one teacher leader per site to be the “T.E.A.M. Facilitator”.
- This Facilitator then creates a mentoring environment, where a group of mentor teachers assist all new teachers in their building.
- Together, the mentors work on improving communication with the new teachers, connecting them to the school culture, and building their knowledge and skills to become effective teachers.
- T.E.A.M. Facilitator training provided by the New Teacher Development Department focuses on strategies to assist in developing an effective mentoring community.
- In addition, T.E.A.M. Facilitators learn how to assist mentors and new teachers in developing a relationship of trust and to communicate effectively.
- T.E.A.M. Facilitators receive training on common problems experienced by new teachers and problem-solving strategies.
T.E.A.M. Facilitators also have the opportunity to recognize their leadership potential as teacher leaders and develop their strengths.
“I have really enjoyed and benefited from all the new teacher training days! It has been wonderful to share ideas with different teachers. Thank you!” |
