With physical activity rates decreasing and childhood obesity rates increasing, our school district wanted to come up with an innovative way to get kids energized about physical activity. CCSD Secondary Physical Education will continue the Extreme Makeover: Fitness Roadshow event for the 2007-2008 school year! This event brings awareness to fitness based physical education, uses the latest in fitness video game technology, and teaches the students about healthy eating and why it's important to stay physically active. We will be traveling to as many schools as we can this year!!
Our fitness stations include:
Resistance Bands- muscular strength and endurance
Jump Ropes, Dance, Dance Revolution and XaviX J-mat games- Cardiorespiratory Endurance
Core Stability Balls- core strength and flexibility
Medicine Balls- upper body strength
Sparq Agility Ladders- speed, power and agility
Reaction Balls- reaction time and agility
The stations will be staffed by 24 HR. Fitness trained professionals!
Each station offers an educational component and includes information on:
Target Heart Rate
F.I.T.T. Principle
How nutrition plays a part in achieving a healthy lifestyle
The five components of health related fitness
A new edition to this year's fitness roadshow:
Because we know that physical activity helps make a student healthier, happier, and ready to learn we wanted to extend the workout to school faculty as well! At each school we visit, teachers and administrators will be invited to participate in our fitness stations during their preparation period and will be eligible to win incentive prizes. We will be offering healthy incentives like pedometers, fruit smoothies, t-shirts and more!!
With funding from the Michael Jordan Inspiration Grant, we are able to leave all the fitness equipment we use at the school site when we leave so PE departments can continue to implement fitness based physical education. Thank you Michael Jordan Foundation!!
Proud partners to the Fitness Roadshow include: 24 hr. fitness, Niketown Las Vegas, The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Partners for a Healthy Nevada and The Teachers Health Trust.
