In 1987 the Nevada Department of Education began a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. Nevada Reading Week is usually held during the last week of February. Many of our local celebrities, parents and community members participate in the festivities by telling stories and reading to our students. The Nevada Reading Week theme for 2008-09 is "Discover the Mysteries of the World: Read" and will be held the week of March 2 - 6, 2009.
